Help Our Club!

Hey there!
I'm asking everyone out there in the blogosphere to help me and my Vegetarian and Animal Rights Club. We are trying to make April 5th-April 9th Vegetarian Awareness Week. We are going to get a booth in our school's lobby-ish area. We are going to do blind taste tests with Vegetarian and Vegan food, do raffles for foods and other good Veggie stuff, we're going to sell stuff like t-shirts and stuff, and we're also going to give out information. We are trying to make this week at least a state wide thing but we are hoping to make this eventually a National thing. We have people in our club who have emailed Oprah, Dr. OZ(I know...) and all of the vegetarian and vegan restaurants in our area as well as health food stores. So it should be fun to have this actually work. So if you know anyone you can email or talk to or if you want to start it at your own school then do that. If you want help, have any questions, or comments than email me at vegangirl94@gmail.com

Veg Week

Hi.
So today in my High Schools Vegetarian/Vegan Club we thought our first event should be a Vegetarian Week. It would be like a week where you pledge to be vegetarian(if you're an omni) or vegan (if you're a vegetarian and you want to...). We thought it was a great idea and we were going to give out food. So I challenge you to do the same thing. I challenge everyone who reads this to either become vegetarian or vegan for at least a week. I know this is a short post but, I just thought it would be a good idea. Comment on this post if you want to do this, or email me at vegangirl92@gmail.com .

XOXO

I'm Tired

I'm tired of people asking me questions because they simply don't understand things...

So, here are some FAQ's:

Q: Why do vegans and vegetarians have fake meat because don't they not like meat?

A: That is true in some cases. I don't like all meat but sometimes I just want a turkey sandwich so I go and buy some vegan bread and tofurkey slices. I do not eat excessive amounts of fake meat because it can be bad for you, but not NEARLY as bad for you as real meat. Oh, and most vegans and vegetarians don't give up meat because they don't like the way it tastes, they just see that real meat has many downfalls.

Q: But aren't eggs and milk good for you?

A: The only good things in them are protein and calcium, which you can get many other places. They also have downfalls like fat and cholesterol. So no, they are not "The perfect food". Also, think of it this way eggs are the reproductive cells of chickens so it's like someone else eating your eggs. I know that sounds gross, but thats really what it is. They're not always fertilized, but then neither are ours. And milk, we are the only animal(and yes, we are an animal technically) that drinks another species milk and we are also the only species that drinks any kind of milk for our whole lives. You know when you stop drinking breast milk? Thats when normal animals stop drinking their mothers milk, including cows! Isn't that gross? You're drinking cow's breast milk.

Q: Where do you get your vitamins and protein?

A: Everywhere, there are so many vegetables and plant based products that have so much protein and other vitamins that you need. I also do take a vitamin supplement, but I've done that since before I was a vegan.

Q: Why are vegans always so skinny?

A: Mainly because we don't eat all of the bad things that come from animal products. Did you know that people can get stressed easier if they eat meat? Yeah, because when they are about to kill the animals they get a rush of adrenaline and nothing can take that out of their flesh, so if someone eats that they get the adrenaline and it can make them stressed.

Ok, so I'm sorry if you think this means I'm pressing my views down your throat, but I was a little tired of the things I mentioned. I'm sorry.

Vegan is Not Exclusive

I recently read a blog, , that was complaining about a flexitarian who was a main writer for a vegan blog. I have a problem with this. The whole reason for me writing this blog is because of people like this. I really cannot stand when people think that they are part of an exclusive club by being a vegan. It's a fucking choice, it's not like you were born a vegan. Ok, some people are raised from birth and even in the womb as vegans, but they can always decide to no longer be a vegan. I think that if a flexitarian wants to write for a vegan blog they can go write ahead. It's not like they are mocking us. A flexitarian is taking a small step into the vegetarian/vegan pool and they are genuinely interested in the whole veganism thing.

I'm sorry for ranting but this offended me. I know that many people saw this blog post and commented on it. But, whatever.

Has Anyone Seen My Life as Liz?

Ok, so the show is absolutely wonderful. I love it. But, there is a problem with it. I have been watching it mostly online and mtv.com claims that Liz Lee is a vegan in her character description. Yet, she is seen eating marshmallows, milk shakes, malts. Pretty much everything besides meat. So, I want to know if she is misinformed or if mtv is. I'm thinking she is just a vegetarian and not really a vegan. But, whatever. This has simply been bothering me and I wanted to know if anyone else has noticed this. Ok, so whatever.

Ok, so I have the first meeting of the Vegetarian/Vegan society at my school. I'm kind of excited. I know thats weird, but I don't have any friends who are vegans. Most of my friends tell me that I shouldn't be doing this. Ok, mainly one friend. But, whatever. I have, however, gotten this same friend addicted to soy milk. Muahaha.

Ok, so ask me a question, I'd like to create a post about questions people ask me further down the line.

About Me!

Hi. My name is Rigby, and I have decided that I am too fed up with stereotypes about vegans. I am in high school and have been a vegan for about a month. But, I was a vegetarian for about a year before that. I know what you're thinking. Oh, she probably thinks that she is above all of us because she doesn't eat meat or dairy or eggs. Well, guess what, THAT IS A LIE! That is a complete and total stereotype. You may know a vegan who is like that but there are very few of us out there like that. I mean, think about celebrities that are vegans.

  • Matthew Lush(ok, so he's not a real celebrity but he is a youtube one, good enough)
  • Alicia Silverstone(Clueless-DUH!)
  • Ellen DeGeneres
  • Demi Moore
  • Joaquin Phoenix
  • Natalie Portman
  • Portia de Rossi
  • Zooey Deschanel
  • Vanessa Williams
  • Woody Harrelson

Now, I know you probably don't know any of these people personally, but think about interviews or videos or talk shows or anything you've seen them in as themselves. Did they seem like pompous assholes? I really don't think so.

This is going to be it for now, but I will be back. I promise you. So, email me any questions or comments you have.
